Laurie Preston – Managing Director
Laurie Preston has more than 36 years of experience in the building and construction industry including more than 25 years in the active management of safety, health and environment issues. With 26 years at ALCOA and in the Kimberley since 2012, Laurie has significant safety experience, and a solid foundation in the local region. Laurie has developed Policies, Procedures, Safety Plans, Registers and Checklists, and Safe Methods of Work that clients require to effectively provide a safe and environmentally sound operation.
Laurie is of Indigenous heritage with his grandfather coming from the Ngarla people near the mouth of the De-Grey River and his grandmother coming from the Gidja people north-east of Fitzroy Crossing.
As an Aboriginal person himself, Laurie has an ongoing commitment to sustainable Indigenous improvement including involvement in numerous Aboriginal Reconciliation projects, helping set up indigenous youth education and development programs, and was chosen by the Peel Development Commission to champion Indigenous tourism development in the region. He was actively involved in the establishment of the Fairbridge Indigenous Trainee program in Pinjarra WA which has provided training and employment opportunities to Indigenous youth since its establishment in 1999.
As an elected Local Government Councillor in the Shire of Murray WA, Laurie held the position of Chairman of the Environment, Health, Building and Planning Committees for 7 years. As part of this role and through the WA Local Government Association, he undertook training in environmental management (mosquito control, air and dust monitoring, nutrient management, sewerage), land management (soil types, appropriate land use, foliage retention, stocking rates, dust suppression, residential density, extractive industry, residential development), water management (ground water, flood mitigation/flood control, contaminated sites, riparian rights, nutrient retention, aquifer protection).
