Risk Solutions

Risk Assessment and Management should be the cornerstone of any business. Without understanding your hazards and associated risks, managing them can be challenging. Understanding and managing the Risks within your organisation is paramount and the key to the success of your business.

Definition

“Risk Management is the term applied to a logical and systematic method of establishing the context, identifying, analysing, evaluating, treating, monitoring and communicating risks associated with any activity, function or process in a way that will enable organisations to minimise losses and maximise opportunities.”

To keep it simple, Kimberley Safety and Risk  will use risk management principles to help your business minimise its losses and achieve your expected outcomes.

Main Elements of Risk Management

1.Establish the Context
2.Risk Identification

What are the risks associated with:

  • key services?
  • Impact of legislation?
  • critical success factors?
3.Risk Analysis/Assessment
  • Is the combination of likelihood and consequences (will range from minor to major)
  • What are the existing controls? Are they adequate?
  • Likelihood and consequences with existing controls in place. (Level of risk is mitigated by internal controls and systems).
  • Use experience, judgement and intuition for the qualitative review

4.Risk Treatment

Where identified high risks are not mitigated by good internal controls and systems these areas will be the major focus of the audit review and subsequent recommendations.

5.Monitoring and Review

All audit recommendations are monitored and are subject to follow up audits. Progress reports must be submitted to audit as recommendations are implemented.

Risk Strategies

A risk management strategy provides a structured and coherent approach to identifying, assessing and managing risk. It builds in a process for regularly updating and reviewing the assessment based on new developments or actions taken. A risk management strategy can be developed and implemented by even the smallest of groups or projects or built into a complex strategy for a multi-site international organisation.

The process of identifying and reviewing the risks that you face is known as risk assessment. By assessing risks you are able to be actively aware of where uncertainty surrounding events or outcomes exists and identifying steps that can be taken to protect the organisation, people and assets concerned. How this is achieved and the level of detail which is considered can vary between organisations.

Risk Profile

Definition

(ASNZ, ISO 31000): A risk profile is a written description of a set of risks. A risk profile can include the risks that the entire organization must manage or only those that a particular function or part of the organization must address

A risk profile identifies the threats to which a company or organisation are exposed. The risk profile will outline the number of risks, type of risk and potential effects of risks. This outline allows a business to anticipate additional costs or disruption to operations. Risk Profiling also describes the willingness of a company to take risks and how those risks will affect the operational strategy of the company.
